Bibles Bring Joy to Kandhamal

Earlier this year, VOM workers provided Bibles to 50 pastors and Christian leaders for distribution to their congregations in Kandhamal district, Odisha state, which suffered massive anti-Christian riots in 2008. Hindu nationalists, who blamed Christians for the death of a political figure, killed 45 people, displaced about 50,000 and destroyed thousands of homes. Many Christians were forced to flee their homes suddenly, leaving behind most of their possessions, including Bibles. It has taken more than a decade for them to rebuild and resettle, and the need for Bibles in the region is ongoing. “When they saw the Bibles,” a VOM worker said, “they were overjoyed and worshiped the Lord by singing and dancing.”
