Protests Against Churches Continue

Protestors have stopped construction of a new church building in Pangkal Pinang on Bangka Island’s east coast. Saint Joseph Church, which received approval for the construction in October 2019, had recently demolished an old structure to make room for the new building. But on Feb. 6, 2020, construction workers were met by a crowd of people protesting the new church building, and opponents of the construction have also sued to have the building permit revoked. When church leaders were unable to calm and disperse the protestors, police took them to the police station. Pray for a peaceful resolution to the disagreement.
