Churches Hire Protection After Inter-Church Conflict

Some churches in northern Ethiopia have had to close their doors and hire police protection after facing strong opposition from the country’s historically dominant religious group. When the Full Gospel Church in Axum decided to build a new facility, members of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church held mass protests and threatened to destroy the church. “The situation grew so serious that the churches decided to close for a week,” a VOM contact said. The Full Gospel Church is still meeting in homes, while another evangelical church in the area has hired police protection for its services. Pray that this conflict will be resolved in a spirit of unity.
